Now that you know all about big kites, it’s time to go and practice with one. Go on the water and leave the board behind, save it for the Day 3. Teabag underneath the kite while testing it for the amount of power it can deliver. Do make sure that you have plenty of open space downwind from you for safety. Have fun, and when you feel like you had enough, do body-dragging across the wind and try to go upwind, against the wind. You will use this skill in the future when you need to retrieve you board every time you fall. So pick a stationary object on the side of the wind window upwind from where you are and reach out for that object while the kite is pulling you across the wind. Keep your body straight and use as a keel to move into the wind. Continue for a few minutes and then go in the opposite direction. This process of traveling upwind is relatively slow, compared to riding a board, so, be patient and it is rather common to make no progress moving upwind in the beginning, it will come to you with practice. About one hour of practice should be enough, as this is a secondary skill and is supplementary to riding.
