There is actually no straight answer to this question. It really varies from one person to another. Just like with a road test driving a car: Some people pass it on the first take and some people need 1000 times to get their driver’s license. 960 to be exact, as of this writing. There are people that start riding on the first day of practice with kitesurfing instructor on the water with the real gear. Usually, we see about one fast learner like this in ten. These students show up with their homework done, knowing the terminology and understanding the theory of the Wind from sister sports like windsurfing or sailing, they might’ve done board riding either snowboarding or wakeboarding, and they usually are well aware of their body and have an acute sense of balance. As for the rest of us, the usual people, it takes about five sessions with a good instructor to start riding. The real question is how much time are you willing to invest in learning how to kitesurf and into practicing it, and how much time do you have available for it? We all are busy, right? Well, there are two parts to kitesurfing: One – is understanding, and another one is practicing, and practicing takes time. So, if you can set aside about 5 days to practice and you put them pretty close to one another on your calendar (ideally every other day, spaced apart by a day of rest), then you are at a very good starting point.
Honestly ! Interesting!
Glad you find this useful, Oksana!
